Very good value for money!

The room was spacious and the hotel very quiet even if it’s closer to the bars / shotengai of the area. The owners were really nice. I stayed for 8 nights and it was very comfortable.

There was no elevator.

Enjoyed our stay and The room is clean and has all the things we need.

The staff is so nice. He let us check in at 1100 AM even though our supposed to be check in is 4PM. The place is around 10-minute walk from the Ikebukuro station. Coin laundry and convenience stores are very near. The room is clean and has all the things we need.

Nothing much but I think some of the tourist may think that it is far from the station but not really.

Lovely Hotel Hatoya

The innkeepers are a warm and very hospitable couple. I enjoyed my welcoming conversation with them immensely. I was also impressed by Akihiro waiting in front of the hotel to check me in and with helping me to bring my heavy luggage to my room. The accommodation was basic but there were some thoughtful touches like ammenities (toothbrush, slippers, water bottle, ect. that made my stay very comfortable.) And I must say that everything was immaculate. The couple did an outstanding job!

There was no lift. Lugging luggage up and down the stairs was difficult.

Wonderful

It’s located at a very convenient place! Around 7-8 min walk from Ikebukuro station. Downstairs there’s a Coin Laundry, and across the street there’s a Lawson convenience store. Despite without an elevator in the hotel, but the owner is very very passionate and kind who would help you with you luggage during check in and check out. Also the room is actually quite spacious enough to open a 29 inch suitcase totally to pack. There’s also a small bathtub and basic toiletry supplies. Definitely will choose to stay here again when visiting Japan.

Value for money stay with its spacious room.

Room is bright and clean. It's surprisingly spacious, so no problem laying out our luggage on the floor. Strong Wi-Fi, ample electric sockets. Mineral water provided daily. Friendly owners, they could communicate with English, and help us with the luggage up the room, but note that there's no elevator. Just a few steps to two convenience stores and a supermarket. Location is fairly pleasant, but would get livelier as you walk towards exit C6 of Ikebukuro Station, and you could see more restaurants, convenience stores, drug store, bento store, and more. But to get to the very core of the station you might need to cater about 15 mins on foot. Quite value for money, considering the size of the room, and its location which is not that far away from the station.

No view as the window is frosted glass. Position of the air-con is not ideal, just need to stop the air flow from swinging down onto the beds. Thought of using its luggage storage after check-out, but decided not to after considering the walking distance from the station, and the need to retrieve before the reception close.

An amazing stay!

The staff were very friendly, helpful and communicated in english. There is a coin laundry (+dryer) with english instructions, super easy to use and no need to buy any detergents. Very clean and comfortable.

The minor disadvantage would be that more touristic nightlife is located in shinjuku, shibuya and roppongi, which although close by subway, one would need taxis after midnight. Still a good location though as there is still things to do in Ikebukuro.

Wonderful

The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful. Every day when I go out , the owner says Good morning to me in Japanese. Very warm smile . The location from the train station is a about 10 mins walk. I like to practice Japanese with the owner,even though his English is ok.

Great location! The owners were really nice and arranged for me to do a late check in. Location really walkable and the room was super clean and spacious! I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Tokyo!

very nice stay at an affordable price! I would stay here again

I was staying in Tokyo for a few weeks, both for work and leisure. I was looking for somewhere affordable with a comfortable working environment, and this hotel was perfect! the room was surprisingly spacious for Japan. Even though there is no elevator, the staff helped carry my big suitcase upstairs. It’s about a 10-15 min walk from Ikebukuro station. there are convenience stores / bento shop / restos nearby, very convenient

it was a bit dark in the room, but it wasn’t too bad

Great value and great location! The owners are really nice and helpful. The room has everything you need and is great for solo and duo travellers. The area also has lots of nice places and is close to Ikebukuro station. The hotel is surrounded by supermarkets and convenience stories and has a coin laundry right next door. In short, a great place for short and long stays.

Great Stay! With Great People! Great Location! 10/10

Very friendly couple! They knew english really well! The room was perfect, very large for Tokyo. Had a TV and well working aircon. The beds were also very comfy. The bathroom seemed new too with a cool bidet, great water pressure from shower head. Smoking room in building was a plus too! The station is about 8-10 min walk, right on JR yamanoto line, so easy access to everywhere. Amazing Stay! 10/10

No dislikes about this stay. One thing that I did miss was either a microwave or a toaster oven, but I can understand why they wouldnt have them. Still a great place, lots of restaurants to go to anyways. :)

Best budget hotel in Tokyo - would stay again

Best value hotel in the inner Tokyo area. Easy to reach from Ikebukuro station (which sits on the Yamanode Line - easy access to all the 'major' areas in Tokyo). - Nice staff - Spacious room - Comfortable bed - Air conditioning works great - Check in / out was smooth

From all hotels I stayed at in Japan, this one had the 'smallest' bathtub, but it wasn't a major issue (unless you are taller than 5'5) Despite closed windows, could still hear road noise at times during the night - for very noise sensitive people, maybe request a room away from the road.

Everything. Staff was helpful and nice, room was perfect and spacious for Japan. The decor is old-school, but that might just be atmospheric. You really do not need anything better when travelling. Can you get a fancier room for a lot more money? Yes. Do you need to when sightseeing in Tokyo? No.
